Shoshone and Bannock Warriors
Ralph Willet Dixey (Bannock) and Peter Jim (Shoshone) in an 1897 photograph wearing traditional beaded clothing. After the Indian Wars, native Americans were forbidden from using their native names by Congressional order.
The Shoshone warriors are so incredibly striking. My curiosity about the Shoshone grew after watching Ken Burn's documentary on Lewis and Clark. Lewis had much admiration for them as reflected in his personal writings. What a shame ethnocentricity spoiled the continent for its indiginous peoples.
